Sen. Cory Booker on being a vegan and the environmental impact of factory-farmed meat
Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey opens up about his vegan lifestyle during the first-ever Presidential Forum on Environmental Justice. In the face of the ongoing climate crisis, “all of us have to do a better job in living in accordance with what our values are,” says Booker. He names corporate animal agriculture as the “number-one reason” for deforestation and increasing health issues in the nation, made possible by agricultural policies that are subsidized through public funds. “In a capitalist society, you vote every day with your dollars,” he says. But, moving forward, America needs to adopt new policies that will “incentivize the right behavior and stop the human suffering.”
